Come to Vietnam learning Maritime

[tuoitre.vn TTO] – Thousands of crew members from the Netherlands, France, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Singapore, Philippines … recently came to Vietnam to participate in training crew members in accordance with the international standards. The program was organized by UT-STC Center, a joint venture between Ho Chi Minh City Transport University and the STC Group (Netherlands).

In the Simulation Room, a large screen showing fore of the ship and the large landscape of sea, the crew members are in charges as the same positions as the cargo ship actual operating at sea.

Seafarer Dante Valenzuela (Philippines) is sailing the ship, Vadim Kilyakov (Ukraine) is standing at the electronic chart screen, crew member Dimitrii Mitcukov (Russia) is monitoring radar system. All of them strained their eyes and stared at the front of the ship to handle a collision scenario with a cargo ship.

Meanwhile, in the central monitoring room outside, Mr. Martin Hendriks, Instructor, sat in front of multi-screen system showing the entire ship as real. Mr. Martin Hendriks gave many abnormal situations  such as sailing the ship enter the channel without a pilot, an aircraft falling on the sailing lane, ship collision, fire and explosion on deck, etc.

The Instructor, Mr. Martin Hendriks said that all actions during the scenarios are recorded. At the end of the lesson, students will receive the results of the troubleshooting process, the error situations are corrected, learned from the lessons for practicing in the next lesson.

Crew member Vadim Kilyakov, one of the six members of Stolt Nelson ship specializing in transporting chemicals in the world, whilst the ship is waiting to receive goods in the Netherlands, he flights to Vietnam to take part in the Management Resources of ship’s course, he said “I am very interested in attending this advanced training course with many real-life handling situations. In fact, even a small negligence on a ship has great consequences.”

Throughout the course, the psychologist – Ms. Chery Nanvor (Netherlands) observed, supervised and operated independently in parallel with the curriculum. Students who do not comply with the lesson, embarrassment and anxiety whilst troubleshooting are recorded by the psychologist to adjust the behavior.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thu – former rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, who closely follows the program – said that about 100 crew members of the large shipping companies come to Vietnam every year to study and improve their professional skills.

Each course has 30 modules, including bridge, deck, hold, balancing and handling all possible situations at sea, which are recognized by international maritime organizations around the world.
